Ranking the 2009 crop of SEC coaches

Every year, "analysts" come out with one form of rankings or another. Sometimes it's a team ranking, and other times, it's a ranking of the best players. But rarely is there a ranking of the best coaches.
That's about to change - at least for the Southeastern Conference.
These rankings are based mainly on one question, and one question only - who would you rather have coaching your team?
For example, if Coach A was ranked seventh and Coach B was ranked sixth, the team with Coach A would rather have Coach B.
Follow me?
Well, even if you don't, that still isn't going to change much.
So, without further ado…
11. Philip Pearson (Alabama), Pete Herrmann (Georgia)
These two tie for last solely because they are interim coaches, but really, it doesn't change much. Even if Mark Gottfried and Dennis Felton were still around, these rankings probably wouldn't change.
10. Jeff Lebo (Auburn)
The Lebo era at Auburn hasn't exactly been a shining time in Tiger basketball history (although then again, when were the shining times in Tiger basketball history?). Lebo is 72-73 in nearly five years at Auburn, and he has yet to lead the Tigers to an NCAA Tournament berth.
9. Rick Stansbury (Mississippi State)
Stansbury's been a good coach throughout his tenure with the Bulldogs. He's led them to plenty of NCAA Tournament appearances, but hasn't quite achieved that breakthrough win yet. So why is he so far down on this list? I think fans would rather have any of the coaches I have in front of him.
8. Kevin Stallings (Vanderbilt)
I wanted to put Stallings higher up on this list, but I couldn't get myself to do so. I mean, the man wins at Vandy - yes, that Vandy! It's completely preposterous, yet it happens year after year and season after season. Plus, he looks like the guy who played Drew Carey's brother on The Drew Carey Show. Don't believe me? Look it up for yourself.
7. Billy Gillespie (Kentucky)

You truly are an idiot. For entertainment purposes, why don't you rank all teams in the NCAA. What a joke!

It's Billy Gillispie, NOT Billy Gillespie. Do you check your facts? Do your editors even edit? As a journalist, that's inexcusable to get a name wrong, especially when it's somebody with such a high profile. (Continued…)

Wow. First of all, it's spelled "G-i-l-l-i-s-p-i-e." Gillispie. At least learn to spell his name correctly if you're going to rank the reigning co-coach of the year in the bottom half of the conference coaches. (Continued…)

"Johnson is a proven coach who, for some reason, chose to leave Stanford (a perennial basketball powerhouse) and go to LSU (a program that's never really been a powerhouse). (Continued…)
