Why try Thep Thai, I ask?

To answer my own headline, there are plenty of good reasons to try Thep Thai.

Now that the second ice age has come and passed, I felt that it was time to experience the other extreme. I needed something that, however temporarily, would cure me of my perpetual winter congestion.

Fortunately, several of you have told me to try Thep Thai, and I knew that it could be just the place I needed. Despite my somewhat bulky restaurant repertoire, I had never been to a Fayetteville Thai joint. I know, I know; it is a shame to say that I have never been to A Taste of Thai, Bangkok, (until recently) Thep Thai or any of the other great Thai restaurants in town.

It was now or never for me to eat Thai, and that's an opportunity I just could not pass up.

Driving down School Avenue, you won't notice a building labeled "Thep Thai." What you will notice is a beautiful oriental building that sticks out of the south side of town like a Razorback SEC victory. You will only notice the sign after you see the huge roofing over some small pieces of wood (which just happens to be the sign) in the middle of a neat garden area.

Once inside, Thep Thai looks a little older, but still nice and well kept. The servers will promptly help you, and I can honestly say that I think our waiter had the same huge smile on his face the entire time.

On the advice of my Asian food expert, I ordered the Thai ice tea. And, let me tell you, this stuff is good. After my first taste, I immediately thought to myself, "Wow, this is better than anything Starbucks has or could ever make." There are essentially three really strong characteristics of the tea: creaminess, sweetness and the bold flavor itself. All three of these elements fuse to deliver one heck of a perfectly balanced drink.

The color of the Thai ice tea is a deep orange with occasional swirls of white cream or very dark orange swirls of unblended tea. It really is quite a sight and taste.

As an appetizer, I ordered the Thai spring rolls with some scrumptious sauce. They were packed with everything we've come to expect in fresh spring rolls, including a lot of hot steam. All of the innards of the spring roll were delicious and well textured inside a wonderful, crispy shell.
