Auburn sends Hogs to fourth-straight defeat

It was a record-setting afternoon Saturday when Arkansas hosted Auburn at Bud Walton Arena.

Unfortunately for the Razorbacks, none of the records set were ones worth celebrating.

Using a deft shooting touch and strong defense, Auburn defeated Arkansas 73-51, dropping the Hogs to 0-4 in Southeastern Conference play for the first time in school history.

That wasn't the only unsightly standard set Saturday.

The 22-point drubbing was the most lopsided loss for Arkansas in the 15-year history of BWA and the worst home loss overall in 58 years.

Stefan Welsh scored 14 points to lead the Razorbacks (12-5, 0-4 SEC), who posted a season-low point total in the loss.

Welsh apologized to the 18,246 fans in attendance after another lackluster performance.

"We do apologize to our great, passionate fans because they deserve a lot better," Welsh said. "We hurt. We definitely hurt. We are extremely sorry to our fans who show up, scream their hearts our and try to push us to victory."

However, after defeating two top-10 teams and posting a 12-1 non-conference record, Welsh said the bad start in SEC play isn't due to a lack of effort.

"Why would we just come out and start dogging it in conference?" Welsh said. "Yes, we're playing hard. Yes, we wanted to win."

As badly as the Razorbacks might have wanted to win, Auburn was not going to let it happen.

The Tigers (12-7, 2-3 SEC) connected on seven of their first eight 3-point attempts to jump out to an early first-half lead.

Auburn led by as many as 12 in the first half, but the Razorbacks were able to trim the lead to seven as the teams headed into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, the Tigers went cold from the outside, hitting only 2-of-10 three-point attempts, and Arkansas cut the lead to 54-49 with a little more than nine minutes left in the game.

But the Razorbacks couldn't get anything going on offense and didn't score a point over the final 6:35.
