Thriving Ivory, a new band recently added to the VH1 You Oughta Know list, will be introducing their new album, Angels on the Moon, Sunday at The Village in Little Rock.
"Thriving Ivory's music touches on the haunting presence of ghosts and angels, as well as life, love, relationships and the universal search for meaning in these uncertain times all couched in timeless melodies and evocative images," according to the band's official Web site.
Thriving Ivory's members - Scott Jason on piano, Drew Cribley on guitar, Clayton Stroope on vocals, Bret Cohune on bass and Paul Niedermier on drums and percussion - met in college in Santa Barbara.
"We began by recording out of our dorm rooms," Stroope said. "And now our songs are running in full circulations. It's pretty amazing."
He also said their sound is large and traumatic.
"Our sound is inspirational, and we try to be unique by using a lot of ambient sound affects and even some space-like sounds," he said.
The band writes its own lyrics with many of the compositions coming from Jason.
"We focus on making meaningful lyrics that people will really be able to relate to because we want lifelong fans," Stroope said.
They draw their inspiration from a variety of different stimuli, he said.
"The song 'Hey Lady' on the album was inspired by a movie clip that we saw in Blockbuster," he said. "[It's] pretty random."
With a variety of different sounding songs, Stroope said the band tries to impress people at their concerts even though they are a new band and might not have all the "lights and stage effects" of other bands like Coldplay.
"We are all about the live show and we pride ourselves in meeting people's expectations," Stroope said. "We have to make it better, louder and more electric than the CD."

I think Jason's lyrics and music is awesome. I don't think anyone, but Clayton could put such feeling and passion into this music. Clayton's voice and his looks transcends Jason's message. (Continued…)
