The defensive philosophy that was built Saturday in a 77-38 shellacking of Louisiana-Monroe continued Wednesday night at Bud Walton Arena.

Behind yet another strong defensive showing from the Razorback women, Arkansas prevailed 63-46 over High Point before a crowd of 1,179.

Arkansas (2-0) forced 25 turnovers, 20 of those coming off steals, as the Razorbacks employed a furious full-court press that pestered the visiting Panthers.

"Arkansas just keeps coming after you," High Point head coach Tooey Loy said. "Their pressure was the difference in the game."

Senior Whitney Jones had another solid outing, coming up with 15 points to lead Arkansas.

She again mentioned the play of the defense, however, in the postgame press conference.

"We would like it to be equal between the offense and the defense," Jones said. "But right now, we're counting on our defense."

Freshman Ceira Ricketts came up big again, totaling 10 points in just her second game as a Razorback, but she made her presence known with five steals, leading the team.

"Once our players on top of the press get going, it makes the whole press work," Ricketts said.

The Hogs converted 29 points off High Point turnovers and stifled a team coming off a 125-point outing against Emory & Henry and who had taken No. 15 Virginia to the brink in its season opener.

High Point (1-2) shot only 26.2 percent from the field for the game, and Arkansas never trailed during the contest.

Arkansas couldn't shoot much better though, only converting 33.8 percent of its field goal attempts. The Razorbacks started off the second half by only managing 10 points in the first 9:49.

"We've got to become a better offensive team," Arkansas head coach Tom Collen said. "We're depending on our press to create our energy. I don't want to depend on it."

Ayana Brereton did her job inside, coming up with 11 rebounds, a career-high, to set the tone in the paint for the Razorbacks.
