With the season of ghosts, ghouls, screams and scares upon us once again, it's a good time to revisit one of the biggest blockbusters of all time.
I'm talking, of course, about The Dark Knight, which included one of the best, yet most disturbing performances to ever grace the silver screen.
As it turns out, many memorable lines from that masterpiece fit perfectly into the current state of Arkansas athletics.
So without further ado…
"How about a magic trick?" - The Joker
While Heath Ledger's Joker is referring to making a pencil disappear, plenty of Hog fans would love to see this football season vanish. The season hasn't been kind to Razorback nation, with Arkansas heading for its first losing campaign since 2005. Arkansas fans must be wondering what life would be like if only Darren McFadden and Felix Jones didn't disappear so soon.
"Everyone knows you're Gotham's White Knight." - Jim Gordon
This is how most fans feel about first-year head football coach Bobby Petrino. After the tumultuous end to the Houston Nutt era, the Razorback football program was in disarray. Along came Petrino to reunite the fans and restore that "one heartbeat" that Nutt so frequently mentions. All hope for the future of Arkansas football is in Petrino's hands.
"I'm a man of my word." - The Joker
Time will tell if Petrino is a man of his word and sticks around Arkansas for more than just a couple of years. If he does, the Razorbacks will experience success the likes of which have never been seen in Fayetteville.
"If you're good at something, never do it for free." - The Joker
Both McFadden and Jones are good at what they do, and now, neither are doing it for free. Both star running backs were drafted in the first round, and both are making plenty of money in the NFL. If only they had decided that "it's not about the money. It's about sending a message."
"Sometimes, truth isn't good enough, sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded." - Batman
