Slick sidewalks slow students

Fresh sidewalks have been laid along the west and north sides of the Greek Theater and have posed an annoying problem since their construction. Though the seemingly harmless new walks are poised to become the Senior Walk for the 2008-11 classes, the first sprinkle of rain quickly turns them into a dangerous version of Slip 'n Slide.
Many students across campus have expressed concern over the new sidewalks and have admitted to falling on them because they're "like ice," freshman Emily Revoir said. Another stretch of sidewalk - under the bridge of the fine arts building - has often posed a rainy-day threat, as well.
Both of these sidewalks are highly trafficked throughout the school week, and in the rush to get to class, it's easy for students to lose balance and fall flat on their faces.
This might not seem like a real danger, but it could easily lead to serious injury. We hope the UA administration will look toward fixing the problem soon before ice actually coats the already slick sidewalks.
