By now, most on campus have heard about the disaster that struck the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, just a couple of hours away from Fayetteville. A shooting there left two students dead and another nonstudent injured Sunday evening, and four suspects are in custody because of it.

This shooting unfortunately joins a rash of tragedies - including another in Arkansas - that has affected the country in the past couple of weeks.

Anne Pressly, a 26-year-old KATV news anchor in Little Rock, died Saturday night after she was found brutally attacked in her apartment earlier last week. And the mother and brother of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson were found shot to death Friday in their South Side Chicago home, and Hudson's young nephew was found dead Monday morning. Both cases remain unsolved.

The Traveler issues its sincerest condolences to members of the UCA community and the loved ones of all of the victims whose lives were taken in these tragedies. They will not be forgotten.

The truth is that it still is shocking, even after the events at Virginia Tech University and Northern Illinois University in the past few years, that such disasters take place in this country.

And the UA certainly is not immune - in 2000, a UA student shot and killed his professor before committing suicide in Kimpel Hall. And just last semester, a UA student was murdered in her off-campus apartment.

These all have shaken up the UA community, and the UCA shootings are no different. In the end, every campus in the nation is vulnerable to attacks at any moment, and these are the times when everyone must band together in support.

What happens a few miles down the road does not - and should not - go unnoticed here or at other universities. So, please, show your support for the Bears in any way possible. Call your UCA friends and let them know that everyone here at the UA is thinking of them.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire UCA community and to the families and friends of all these innocent victims. We're heartbroken that such events continue to occur, especially so close to home.
