Fall, Thanksgiving 'breaks' not enough for UA students

Several students made their way home last week for their university fall break.
Unfortunately, none of those students attend the UA.
The UA does not have a scheduled fall break during October. Instead, the UA "fall break" falls on a Wednesday the week of Thanksgiving, and the following two days, Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after, are considered a "Thanksgiving holiday." This amounts to three days off during one of the most chaotic weeks of the year.
Although school is just a couple of months into session by the middle of October, students still feel the stress of midterms, jobs and constant responsibilities. Although a couple of days off during the month of October does not seem like it would make much of a difference, it could be just what the doctor ordered for overwhelmed college students.
If a break during October isn't feasible, a full week off during Thanksgiving also would be a nice gesture. Many students must fly across the U.S. to go home for the heart-warming American tradition of turkey eating, football watching and napping, but with just three days off school, some might be forced to forgo that much-needed break.
College students might not bear the same responsibilities as adults who spend all of their time in the workforce, but students certainly have a full plate of work, especially if they take on a part-time, or in some instances a full-time, job while taking classes.
A fall break in mid-October, and/or a weeklong break during Thanksgiving, would give UA students and teachers alike a chance to refuel their engines to drive through the end of the fall semester.
