UA Student Poll reveals important opinions

The UA Associated Student Government unveiled its first UA Student Poll Monday in a press conference for student media members. We, probably along with many students on campus, love that the ASG provides this outlet to express students' opinions and concerns.
The student poll includes questions regarding a variety of important topics, such as basketball tickets, Registered Student Organizations, parking reforms (which seems to always be a point of discussion on campus), and sports and recreation facilities.
However, one fairly controversial topic was noticeably absent from the poll: the tobacco ban.
While the tobacco ban controversy has died down publicly over the past semester, the UA campus still has problems to face with its decision. Maybe an important poll question should have been: How should the UA take care of cigarette butts littering the campus?
The UA student poll does hit some topics that plague students from day to day, of course. Parking problems on campus have become inevitable, and students' opinions on the issue might allow the UA to come to a more middle-of-the-road decision on how to handle the problems.
Another significant poll question deals with a decision regarding whether to charge a student fee to construct a state-of-the-art recreation facility on the UA campus. This is a great opportunity for UA students to voice their opinions on whether they would actually want a "state-of-the-art campus recreation facility that is comparable to others within the SEC" and how much of a student fee they would be willing to pay for such a facility.
These are the types of poll questions that should be looked at closely in regards to improving campus. The university is here for the students, and student opinion is what can ultimately bring more to this institution.
For that, we thank the ASG for doing what it can to promote discussion and hear student input.
