The Razorback soccer team finally came home for two Southeastern Conference games this weekend after four in a row away. The team was not able to secure the home wins they sought, losing Friday 3-1 to Alabama and Sunday 2-1 to Auburn.
With the losses, the Razorbacks drop to 9-5 overall and 2-4 in SEC play.
The Razorbacks led by one going into the half against Alabama, after senior Lindsay Patterson headed a cross from sophomore Lauren Hallauer past Alabama goalkeeper Kara Gudmens in the first five minutes of the game.
"[Scoring the goal] was exciting," Patterson said. "It was nice to score that early. I just wish we could have kept that going, but it was a nice play by Lauren. She kicked the ball, and I got to head it in. I think it gave us a sense of confidence so that we were able to play the whole first half strong."
Patterson's goal made her the leading scorer for Arkansas this season with six goals.
The Crimson Tide rolled back in during the second half to score three goals, all within 10 minutes of each other. Alabama's Rosaly Petriello led off the scoring streak, converting on a penalty kick against Arkansas goalkeeper, Britini Williams. Kailey Corken and Brooke Rogers of Alabama scored shortly thereafter to give Alabama a 3-1 lead it wouldn't relinquish.
The game against Auburn on Sunday was reminiscent of the Alabama game, in that Auburn's two goals were also scored within 10 minutes of each other. Abbey Wilburn put the Razorbacks up by scoring over 30 minutes before Auburn's Katy Frierson scored her first goal of the game. Frierson scored both goals for Auburn with assists by Rebecca Howell and Jenni Prescott.
"Usually as a midfielder we get most of the assists, but it is definitely nice to get a goal," Wilburn said.
The highly physical game led to five total yellow cards and a third SEC win for Auburn.
The intensity of the SEC games this weekend seemed to wear on the Razorbacks in the second half, with those two crucial 10-minute spells suddenly taking the Razorbacks from playing with the lead to playing from behind.
