Burglary constituted 22.1 percent of property crimes last year, and the number of burglaries decreased by 0.2 percent last year.

The number of aggravated assaults reported to police increased from two to six last year. Usually aggravated assault is the product of two people getting into a fight, though a stabbing at the ZZ Top concert last year and a shooting at a fraternity are both considered aggravated assault, as well, Crain said. People have been arrested for both the stabbing and the shooting.

"Six aggravated assaults in a year is not a huge wave of violence," Crain said.

The number of aggravated assaults reported to law enforcement across the nation last year decreased 0.6 percent from 2006, and there has been a 12.4 percent decrease in assaults since 1998, according to the FBI.

The number of forcible rapes reported to law enforcement decreased 2.5 percent last year, according to the FBI.. Four rapes were reported to the UAPD last year, compared to three the year before.

The UAPD made 119 arrests for public intoxication last year, the same number of arrests made in 2006, according to the report.

The department also arrested 16 people for liquor law violations, 50 people for driving while intoxicated or under the influence, 26 for drug-related violations, and five for weapons possession, according to the report.
