The 2006 film "Nobelity" is to be shown in the Union theatre tonight at 8pm.

"Nobelity" is essentially a global-awareness film that is the "path to a better future, with nine Nobel laureates as our guides," according to the trailer posted on their Web site nobelity.org. This film addresses the issue of less fortunate populations across the globe, and what can be done to help create equality for their youth, resulting in a more prosperous future for all.

The director, who will be present in the showing of the film, was a large influence on University Program's decisions to feature this movie.

"It's more about the director, Turk Pipkin," University Programs Cultures and Concepts Chairman Mathew Chavez said. "He's someone nice to bring to the university; he's a credible individual with a diverse career."

UP Cultures and Concepts are paying Pipkin $3,000 to attend the film, and he will host a Q&A afterwards.

Pipkin is a former actor and has written over a hundred hours of prime-time television shows. He spent over 30 years traveling the world to write for 12 national magazines, and has published eight books, according to his Web site turkpipkin.com. Taking part in both the fiction and entertainment world, as well as informing the public about issues of serious concern, Pipkin proves he has made a number of various contributions to society.

Pipkin not only directed "Nobelity", but he also acted and narrated for the film. "There's a lot of passion in his film," Chavez said, "you can tell by the amount of effort he put into it."

Some students understand the importance of global awareness.

"The world is a big problem and everything is interconnected, creating a chain reaction," said Ross Pugh, a non-traditional student. "The more aware of it we are, the better chance there is of solving it."

If you get some free time, I strongly suggest you check out this film. It will give you a whole new look of the youth across our world, the similarities we share with that youth and the importance of equality and the future that resides in our children's hands. "I would definitely go and watch it," Pugh said, "I just got done studying Africa so I'm pretty aware of the problems."
