Forget Willy Wonka and his eccentric chocolate factory. Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp (sorry, ladies) have both been outdone.

The new name in sweet-centrics is Rick's Bakery.

If you haven't made a visit to the bakery, you have yet to experience one of Fayetteville's finest.

Every time I walk into this place, I get all giddy like a little kid about to meet Mickey Mouse at Disney World.

It's perfectly feasible to forget that you came to actually purchase and consume something, instead of just to gawk at the spectacular edible creations. What's even more plausible is to not realize that behind the colorful sugarcoated treats is one of Fayetteville's best delis.

While Rick's has been serving unrivaled sweets since 1980, it wasn't until fairly recently that they decided to take on the deli market. And the results were well worth the wait.

Logically thinking, it makes sense that Rick's would be able to serve a product that could potentially dominate the market. Everything they serve is prepared and decorated with the highest quality.

If I knew my cholesterol score, I'm sure it would reflect how much I love Rick's. Some things are best left unknown.

Even though I had eaten at Rick's several times throughout my first two years of college, I just recently made a visit to eat real food. After a few minutes of drooling over the pastry exhibits, I remembered to ask for a menu.

The first thing to strike me was the prices. Unlike most sandwich shops, they were actually reasonable. Looking to experience the most Rick's had to offer, I opted for the half sandwich, half soup combo for $5.99. For my sandwich, I chose the Eiffel Tower, which is Rick's Club sandwich. The soup just happened to be my favorite - potato (with bacon!).

It became clear why the sandwich was called the Eiffel Tower when it was brought to the table. Sure, most clubs are usually fairly tall, but this was by far the tallest I have ever eaten. And, oh, the bread. If it wasn't the freshest and softest bread I've felt in my life, then you can slap me silly and make fun of my tactile senses.

Amen and amen!!! Rick can't be beat for pastries and sausage rolls. Glad to know they offer lunch now.
