Comedy troupe the Human Giant, from the MTV show of the same name, is coming to the UA tonight and will perform in the Alltel Ballroom located on the fifth floor of the Arkansas Student Union.

The show is free for faculty and students and will begin at 10 p.m., but the doors will be opened at 9:30 to 9:45 p.m., said James 'Tatum' Wilson, chair of the University Programs Comedy Committee.

The troupe is made up of Aziz Ansari, Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer, who are the core members of the group. The second season of their show premiered earlier this year on MTV, Wilson said.

The trio met while performing together at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York. They then began having ideas for short films and met with their now director, Jason Woliner, according to an interview on cracked.com.

"We were big fans of his, and we just decided that we should start doing stuff together officially and call it [the] 'Human Giant,'" said Ansari in the interview.

The name derived from a line in of the trio's sketches, in which they'd ask, "Are you familiar with Michael Clarke Duncan, the human giant? We can get him to carry you around Hollywood wherever you want to go," said Ansari. The name eventually became stuck in their heads, according to the interview.

The comedic troupe focuses on the times in their friendship that they thought might be a good fodder for short films, according to an interview with Scheer on gothamist.com.

"Human Giant is really the 'Seabiscuit' of comedy shows; everything you see if [it is] based on a true story," according to Scheer's interview.

The show will feature a lot of audience interaction and music, Wilson said. He also encourages for students to come to the show because it will be different and fun.

The Human Giant will perform a live version of some of their sketches at the UA. After the show, a table will be set up for students to purchase DVDs and comedy CDs, which can be signed by the performers.
