Everyone should commit this date - Nov. 4, 2008 - to eternal memory, because it will be a day that makes history, when things change for every person on the planet. Why Nov. 4 takes on such significance is because of the 2008 presidential election.

And no matter if it's Sen. John McCain and Alaska Gov. Palin or Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. Joe Biden who win enough votes, our world definitely will change. The race even will impact your children's and grandchildren's lives and how the U.S. is perceived by others around the globe.

The importance then is that this date allows every U.S. citizen the chance to express his or her conscious choice and later tell his or her kids and grandkids, "I was there. I voted to elect that president." Every child for the next 50 years will be asking about how this election changed their world.

For after understanding the real issues behind the politicking, it becomes apparent how important the right man or woman placed in the White House in 2009 will affect the whole world.

All of this change will not only come from the president chosen, but also from every other race - whether it be the school board, city hall or state and federal officials, who will make the laws and regulations that affect everyone.

So when the current issues - such as Russia and China loaning our government billions of dollars to bail out Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac, an ill-thought out war that takes billions of dollars out of our federal treasury and has left thousands of people dead and wounded, and the hundreds of thousands of Americans with their dream home foreclosed and an economy drained of resources - are directly addressed by the candidates themselves, listen carefully.

Take what they say seriously, understand their positions, consider all issues and how they affect your life, and throw away all emotion and vote that educated consciousness while feeling the pain of those less fortunate.

After casting your vote this November, walk away and feel very proud, because your very participation helped in some small way to change your world forever.
