Various businesses and schools - many in Arkansas - also are participating in the National Day of Encouragement, but Baker said the idea of encouraging others is one that should last yearlong.
"It just comes down to what [Siegfried and her group] said: we need a day that allows us to see the significance about this," he said.
ASG Vice-President Jong Shin said he was proud to hear of Siegfried's accomplishment in establishing the National Day of Encouragement.
"This amazing initiative came from a student on this campus," Shin said. "It's a prime example of the caliber of students we have on campus."
Jeff Foxworthy, comedian and host of "Are You Smarter than a Fifth-Grader?," has recorded PSAs for the holiday, and major cities across the U.S. - including Chicago, Atlanta and New York City - are hosting events to promote encouragement, according to an Encouragement Foundation press release.
