ASG election results released

ASG elections ended 4 p.m. Thursday with votes from more than 1,833 students.
This turnout was larger than last year, said Dayna Wolek, assistant director at the Center for Leadership and Community Engagement.
Out of the 87 student applicants for Senate, 76 met the necessary requirements to participate in the election. ?
However, 35 out of 50 senators were actually elected in the election this week. Many of the elections within the individual colleges were tight races, including a margin of victory of one vote for a seat in the School of Architecture and two votes for the last seat in the College of Engineering.
The College of Education and Health Professions was able to seat just two of its six seats.
The race in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, which had the most potential senators, came down to a margin of five votes. ?
New senators will be sworn in 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
The graduate and law schools Senate elections will begin 9 a.m. Monday because of glitches in the voting process during the election this week.
Students who could not vote in those elections should go to the CLCE to get a paper ballot. ?
ASG Senators will meet 6 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday from in the Reynolds Center. Through online voting at vote.uark.edu, their peers elected 50 students representing the six schools on campus.
The ASG provided a polling station available to students all week in the Arkansas Union.
Students were not allowed to spend an excess of $500 on campaign materials and were subject to a variety of campaign regulations, including an inability to campaign within 50 feet of a computer lab, no bribing and no chalking senior walks or fountains.
