Bruce E. Pontious has been appointed associate vice chancellor for university development at the UA, according to a press release.

"Bruce is one of the most experienced and successful people in our business, and he is a great addition to our team," said Brad Choate, vice chancellor for University Advancement, in the press release. "Bruce has been very successful at Ohio State and is clearly recognized nationally as one of the best, we are very fortunate to attract him to the UA."?

Pontious served as a fund-raising executive at Ohio State for the past 21 years, according to the release.

Among Pontious's accomplishments, he supervised five fund-raising projects in various regional offices in New York; Los Angeles; Chicago; Naples, Fla.; and the Southwestern States region, earning $342 million, Pontious said. Pontious also supervised development programs for the departments of athletics and academics, at his stint at Ohio State, he said.

In his new role at the UA, Pontious will oversee all units of university development, including the offices of annual giving, corporation and foundation relations, development research, gift services, information services and planned giving, according to the press release.

Corporate relations are a key element of the job, Pontious said.

"[The job will require] some record keeping, as well," Pontious said. "A major part of development research includes keeping an accurate and thorough database on corporations and alumni."

It is imperative to make sure you have as much information as possible before talking to a corporation or foundation, Pontious said.

"I am very excited about joining the nationally recognized development program at the UA," Pontious said, according to the press release.

"With the caliber of leadership that exists in the advancement division and throughout the university, we surely will realize tremendous successes in the coming years."?

The Council has recognized the development program at the UA on a national level for Advancement and Support of Education, he said.
