The University does offers grade forgiveness to students who receive a grade of "D" or "F," which allows them to retake these classes in an attempt to improve their grade.
"The grade forgiveness policy is fair because anyone can use it," Manship said. It's not cool to have to finish paying for a class you don't get credit for."
"Grade forgiveness is great but it should never be a strategy." McCray said. She also noted that many Graduate Schools and all medical schools factor in the grades of "D" and "F" the UA forgives when they look at a students transcript.
"One or even a few grades of "W" will not hurt you, but one "F" on your transcript can." McCray said.
McCray also warned about having too many grades of "W" on a transcript. More than a few grades of "W" would need a letter of explanation from a faculty member or someone close to the student, she said. Most times students with enough grades of "W" to warrant a letter of explanation have a legitimate reason for having their grades withheld, she said.
