Students, staff shouldn't start year on negative note

Ouch. Must we start the year off so negatively?

I have gentle suggestions for the first featured letter writers of the new academic year. No passive aggression here, honest.

Deena Owens: Chill, sister. We cannot assume that "no one heeded the warning to print schedules early."

The system really wasn't down that long, and you and I both know there is always something for university staff to do, regardless.

Josh Wise: As one of those nasty smokers who kicked the habit just not to have to deal with all the negativity surrounding the ban, I suggest you rally your peers and take turns picking up the butts on campus and depositing them in bulk at the central administration building.

Maybe you could get some kind of community service credits if you are involved in registered student organizations and/or an official commendation from the university.

Let's start the year on a positive note, shall we?
