On behalf of the Associated Student Government and the student body, I am honored to welcome you home to Fayetteville as we begin the 2008-09 academic year. Your decision to be a Razorback is one of the best and most rewarding decisions you will ever make. Congratulations, and I am looking forward to the spirit, involvement and progress as a student body that we will enjoy together over this next year.

Some exciting changes have been happening over the summer. On July 1, G. David Gearhart officially took over as UA chancellor. You will be excited to know that Chancellor Gearhart's top priority is to keep "Students First" in the decisions that are made at the UA. To learn more about what this means, check out http://chancellor.uark.edu/13226.php. I think you will like what you see.

ASG executives have been hard at work this summer getting ready for a busy year. We will be hosting our annual Welcome Week Cookout Monday in the Arkansas Union Mall. Also at the cookout will be several members of our administration. Please come by around lunch Monday and give us the opportunity to meet you. There also will be a chance to learn about ASG programs and the 100-plus opportunities ASG offers for involvement.

Being a Razorback opens a world of opportunities for the future. The top-tier education received at the UA will serve us forever; however, being a Razorback goes far beyond the classroom. With more than 300 registered student organizations on campus, getting involved with a group in which you are interested will offer a unique opportunity to enhance your time as a student. I strongly encourage you to make these opportunities a part of your educational experience.

The experiences you have on campus will prepare you for the rest of your life. The students that you associate yourself with while at the UA will become your lifelong friends and your connections in the future.

Don't forget, as the future leaders of Arkansas and of our country, it is our responsibility to take advantage of the opportunities placed before us. College is a time to soak every ounce out of life but also is a time to remember that the decisions we make during these years will have a significant impact on the rest of our lives. Set manageable goals for the future, but don't forget to dream big. Always remember who you are and who you want to become, and set no limits on what you are capable of achieving in life.

I am honored at the opportunity to serve as your student body president over the next year. I want nothing more than for your experience at the UA to be the best it possibly can be. Please let me know if there is ever anything that I can do to be of service to you. I am excited for the opportunity to get to know you over this next year as we, the student body, grow and succeed like we have never done before.

Welcome to the Razorback family!
