The fine arts gallery will feature of array of artwork and special programs, which will include artwork for the Arkansas Arts Council, according to the gallery schedule. The biggest show, titled "The Veil: Visible & Invisible Spaces," will be devoted on the role of the veil in its many manifestations and interpretations throughout history and culture, according to the schedule.
?"Every year, we try to have a big theme show," said gallery director Shannon Dillard Mitchell. "[The exhibit] has the most programming, which will include video, installations, series of paintings, and photograph series. It's one big united body of work."?
?The exhibit will feature 35 artists and will begin its run in the gallery September 10. ??
The Anne Kittrell Art Gallery, located on the fourth floor of the Arkansas Union, is a student-run gallery funded by the University Programs. It made its debut in 1985 and "is named after Anne Kittrell, who used to work for University Programs, to my understanding," said gallery coordinator Sarah Busch.
??The gallery displays artwork ranging from the UA students to local artists to other artists that are from different parts of the states, she said.??
"The goal [of the gallery] is for students to have a gallery of their own," Busch said. "Our goal is to accommodate the students who are learning about art for the first time."
??The Anne Kittrell gallery is also experimenting with different avenues of art. Last spring, the gallery premiered the successful Fashion a la Mode, which will return for next spring, Busch said. In addition to the runway show, the gallery will feature improvisations and human sculptures, she said.??
"We want to try other avenues of art," Busch said. "Art can't always be contained inside galleries. It needs to be available to the public [by other means]."
?The Anne Kittrell Art Gallery is currently displaying the artwork of Robert Glick. A reception for the artist will begin at 6 p.m. today at the gallery.
