McDonnell deserves more

The feats McDonnell accomplished at Arkansas will never be matched. To think that another coach could win 42 NCAA titles is ridiculous. In fact, no one is even really that close. Pat Henry, track coach at Texas A&M, has 26 national titles. Legendary basketball coach John Wooden only has 10 championships.
Essentially. McDonnell makes Wooden look like a poor man's Isiah Thomas.
Unfortunately, outside of those in tune with the world of track and field, few realize the significance of what McDonnell has been able to accomplish in his 36 years at Arkansas.
The numbers are mind-boggling, yet outside of his peers and other track enthusiasts, he gets little or no recognition.
It's a shame that Arkansas fans don't flock to the Randal Tyson Track Center or John McDonnell Field in the same way they do to Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium or Bud Walton Arena.
Those who haven't seen one of McDonnell's cross country or track teams compete are missing out on something special.
McDonnell deserves the utmost respect and recognition for his accomplishments, yet he doesn't get it outside of the state of Arkansas and the world of track and field.
Not everyone has figured it out yet.
Hopefully one day, they will.

This is an excellent article, but the difference is that the Arkansas university PR machine does not promote the program and your coach conducted himself with class to his teams. (Continued…)
