Gregson Hall was runner-up for best performance, collecting 8.5 pounds a person, according to the press release.
Futrall Hall won in the category of "most improved" and was awarded for educating students about the importance of recycling, Voorhies said.
"Housing quizzed members of each hall, asking the same questions, and the hall with the highest average won," he said.
The 571 students living in the Northwest Quad collected the most recyclable material with a total of 4,335 pounds during the 10 weeks of competition, according to the press release.
UA Greek organizations on campus were also involved in RecycleMania, running their own competitions in fraternities and sororities.
So far, Pi Beta Phi Sorority holds "a commanding lead" with a total of 678 pounds collected, according to the press release, but students plan to continue the contest until May 1.
"Everybody has won by competing in RecycleMania because we're now doing a better job of stewarding resources," Brown said.
"Students seemed to respond to the competition more than faculty and staff, so I'd thank the UA student body for our success, and also the folks at housing for working hard with resident councils to get the word out," he said.
The university will continue to recycle and will compete in RecycleMania next year, as well.
"Next year we'll have an even better idea of how to motivate the campus than we did this year," Brown said.
