The Board of Trustees discussed fundraising endeavors and increasing need-based scholarships, he said. ?
The resolution also calls for ASG to contact politicians to lobby for the expansion of the "Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship," a substantial increase in Federal Pell Grant assistance and any further necessary assistance to lower the cost of higher education and ultimately allow free universal tuition for all undergraduates at public colleges and universities.
The UA should strive to prevent and reduce division of academic opportunity based on wealth, according to the resolution. ?
Sen. Andreas Chen argued that a good education is worth paying $4,000. ?
"I believe it's everyone's right to come [to the UA]," Holloway said. ?
The resolution will be discussed further next Tuesday.
The Senate also passed Resolution 29, titled "Supporting the GoLoco Program."?
GoLoco is a ride-sharing service that helps people and communities create their own personal public transportation network, according to the resolution. ?
The program would result in "[fewer] cars on campus" and will "reduce carbon dioxide footprints," Sen. Chris Allen said. ?
Another advantage of the program is that students can "split the cost of a parking permit, paying $30 instead of $60," Allen said. ?
"The head of the [UA] Transit Department has been working on this program since last summer, getting liability issues straightened out," Allen said. ?
Allen said there would be a cancellation policy for anyone who decides they no longer want the service. ?

The problem is that ASG doesn't have the power to enforce the resolution. UA Parking is free to ignore it, and I'm sure they will, just the same way the math department ignored ASG about alternatives to modular math. (Continued…)

Adam, I am Senator Jonathan Powell. I am the Chairman of the ASG Parking and Transit Committee. The Parking and Transit Committee alone has done much to reform transit and parking this year. (Continued…)

The only thing I can think of is how ridiculous it would be to see an increase in hours of payment. Just effing ridiculous. Why stop there? Why shouldn't it be 24 hours a day? And double the price it is now? Better yet, why not make more spaces reserved and force people to buy daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly permits to park there? And triple the price of the tickets for people who park there without a permit! I suppose increasing the hours is one way to tap into those darn non-trad students who get by with not paying for parking by taking night classes! Can't forget to screw those people over like everyone else!
This campus is becoming less and less commuter friendly and less and less community friendly. (Continued…)
