The man charged with killing a UA student earlier this month pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Wednesday.

Zachariah Marcyniuk, 28, has been accused of stabbing to death his ex-girlfriend, 24-year-old Katharine Wood of Greenbrier, at her Fayetteville apartment March 9.

Marcyniuk is facing charges of capital murder and residential burglary and is being held without bond at the Washington County jail.

His trial date is set for May 29, and he is represented by Fayetteville attorney W.H. Taylor.

If convicted of capital murder, Marcyniuk faces either life in prison or the death penalty.

Police were called to Wood's residence at the Colonial Arms Apartments on Leverett Avenue March 9 after a resident reported he heard a woman screaming, according to a police affidavit.

After entering the apartment, officers found Wood dead in the bathtub with wounds to her torso, according to the affidavit, the victim of an apparent stabbing.

Marcyniuk was pulled over for speeding and arrested in Oklahoma later that day, 30 minutes after police issued a warrant for his arrest.
