Gym'Backs post second best score of season

The No. 11 Arkansas Gym'Backs concluded regular season Southeastern Conference play on the road Saturday as they tied their second best score of the season in a 197.900-195.950 loss to No. 1 Georgia.
Arkansas (4-5, 2-4 SEC) thrived on bars as the team posted a 49.175, which ranks tied for fifth all-time in Gym'Back history.
Senior Emily Peacock and sophomore Allison Daniels led the team with a 9.875 while senior Samantha Cortez had a career-high 9.825.
Sophomore Casey Jo Magee, who finished second in the all-around competition with a 39.375, posted a 9.825 on bars, which helped Arkansas stay close after one rotation, 49.575-49.175.
The Gym'Backs then posted a 49.150 on vault in the second rotation while Georgia (8-1, 6-0 SEC) finished with 49.500 on bars. Sophomore Sarah Nagashima led the Gym'Backs with a career-best 9.875 while Magee scored a 9.850. Sophomore Amy DeFilippo tied for a career-high with a 9.850.
Nagashima started the third rotation for the Gym'Backs by posting a 9.825 in her first collegiate floor exercise after replacing sophomore Ashly McPherson who was out with a neck strain. Peacock led Arkansas with a 9.875 while Magee posted a 9.825, which resulted in a 148.400-147.425 score heading into the final rotation.
Arkansas struggled on beam posting a 48.525, but Arkansas co-head coach Mark Cook was still proud of his team even after the lackluster rotation, he said.
"We were great on the first three events," Cook said. "We got a little distracted on the beam, but we fought through. I'm proud of the team and how they stayed together."
The Gym'Backs started the rotation with a fall off the beam, and then had two big wobbles in later performances, which caused the team to count a low 9.600 score.
Georgia took advantage of those mistakes by posting a 49.50 on floor to finish out its SEC season undefeated.
UA's Magee placed third overall in the event by posting a 9.875 while DeFilippo posted a 9.800 for the Gym'Backs. Nagashima also helped the team make up for those mistakes by posting a 9.725.
Arkansas will continue its road trip next weekend as it travels to No. 9 UCLA where the Gym'Backs will also face No. 4 Alabama and Cal State Fullerton in a Sunday contest.
