Political sellouts could provoke revolution

Uncommon Sense

In the music world, being a sellout is a very disgusting thing. I would transfer this idea of "selling out" to our congressional representatives because that is what appears to be happening.

When an artist sells out to the dark side, he abandons personal integrity and soulfulness to obtain greater profit or mainstream popularity. Similarly, most of our politicians are selling out their integrity and the best interests of their country for special interest campaign funding, and consequently, entrenched incumbency.

Almost all Republican and most Democratic congressmen have sold out the U.S. Constitution and the interests of the American people.

It is not completely the politicians' fault, though. There has been a long-term systematic corruption of our government orchestrated by certain industrial sector elites. Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower distinctly warned us of this.

For someone deeply concerned with the Constitution and America, it is especially painful living in Northwest Arkansas with Rep. John Boozman. This politician has voted in almost perfect alignment with President Bush, the biggest sellout in American history. It is now becoming even more painful to realize that our conservative Democratic senators are sellouts as well, especially Sen. Mark Pryor.

To differing degrees, Boozman, Pryor and Sen. Blanche Lincoln have played their parts in supporting the Bush agenda. Each of them has voted for some or many of Bush's priorities, and has been relatively silent in criticism of his atrocities.

Some critical votes and deafening silences relate to the Iraq war authorization, the USA PATRIOT Act, the Military Commissions Act, and most recently, the telecommunications immunity amendment. I know I am forgetting dozens of other sellout votes, but these popped to mind instantaneously.

Let's take a look at the state of our union under the Bush agenda, supported to differing extents by our misrepresentatives.
