Political sellouts could provoke revolution
Uncommon Sense

The Constitution is burning with de facto impeachment provision elimination, warrantless wiretapping, habeas corpus elimination, sneak and peek searches, torture and other affronts ad infinitum. Our country is stuck in Bush's quagmire war of choice that will cost more than $2 trillion. Our troops are overstretched and our military is weakening.
Our economy is potentially collapsing with the subprime mortgage crisis, a falling dollar, skyrocketing oil prices and crumbling financial markets. Our budgetary and tax priorities are massively distorted.
Our proposed 2009 budget is record-breaking at more than $3 trillion. Our proposed 2008 military budget is a record $622 billion. Bush's tax cuts for the rich have thus far cost more than $1.3 trillion.
Our national debt is at almost $9.3 trillion and surging. Our annual interest on this debt costs more than $400 billion, all of which is silently flushed down the toilet.
The environment is being exploited and devastated with no end in sight. The ice caps are melting as our planet continues burning coal and oil for profit. Our protected wilderness areas have been opened up to massive logging, drilling and mining by special interests.
Our two-party system - which could even be argued to be a one-party system - is broken and ineffective. Our electoral system and democracy are more compromised than ever with big-money elections and hackable electronic voting machinery. Our mainstream electoral information systems are monopolized, propagandized and contaminated by infotainment.
Our political language is totally undermined by Orwellian doublespeak. For example, the unpatriotic "PATRIOT" Act, the "Healthy Forests Initiative" to destroy forests, "Clear Skies Initiative" to increase air pollution, illegal torture through "enhanced interrogation," illegal kidnapping through "extraordinary rendition" and destruction of habeas corpus and other liberties through discretionary "unlawful enemy combatant" designation.
