Blazing lead guitars, melodic high-pitched vocals and a booming rhythm section. No, this is not a classic rock band or a metal band. It is Orange Country, Calif., native, post-hardcore rock band Saosin.

These high power rockers are not taking the current music scene back into the classic days or catching on the latest trends, they are simply progressing it.

"We want to be different and we don't want to be predictable," said Saosin singer Cove Reber. "This is half of the reason we didn't scream on [our debut]. We also have talent in our musicianship. A lot of bands will pick up a guitar and get some drums and play the same part over and over, and that just doesn't work. Our songs are also structured geniusly, which not a lot of bands can do.

"The other half of the reason we did not scream on this record is because we wanted to give the fans something emotional. Singing can make people feel something, while screaming really doesn't," he said.

Saosin - Reber, guitarists Beau Burchell and Justin Shekoski, bassist Chris Sorenson and drummer Alex Rodriguez (no, not the baseball superstar) - signed to major label Capitol Records a couple years ago and released their self-titled debut album, which was produced by acclaimed producer Howard Benson, in September of 2006.

Their heavy and powerful rock sound have contributed to a somewhat unique sound, which can be described as metal guitars with a high-pitched, rock singing voice. However, the band did recently tune their instruments down a bit and found radio success with their soft ballad "You're Not Alone."

Their sound and success (which has been following them in the underground since they released their 2003 debut EP Translating the Name) has put Saosin on the road ever since they release their debut.

This touring has included a stint on last summer's Projekt Revolution tour, with Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance, and a few Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos appearances.
