And so far, the results have gone Florida's way. Florida freshman Nick Calathes continued with his sensational season, posting 15 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds against the Commodores.
The rest of the Gators' offense hasn't slowed down, either. They have scored 85 points or better in half of their conference games thus far and average 81.5 points per game.
"I'm always reluctant to buy into any hype about our team," Donovan said. "Us being the best we can be might not be the best in the SEC, but last year it was. We'll have to see."
Florida's next test comes Saturday at Arkansas where Donovan will meet up with longtime friend and former coaching partner, Razorback coach John Pelphrey.
Tennessee still tops
After a stumble on the road at Kentucky last week, Tennessee went back to its old ways on Saturday in proving that it still is the team to beat this year in the SEC East.
The Volunteers (17-2, 4-1 SEC) dismantled Georgia 85-69 on Saturday, getting seven 3-pointers and 27 points from Chris Lofton. Tennessee has four players averaging double-digit points, led by Lofton's 14.5.
Tennessee played Alabama on Tuesday after press time, and will play next at SEC West-leading Mississippi State on Saturday.
