Part of Arkansas' gameplan was to take advantage of the Gamecocks' lack of size, Hill said.
"They didn't have a lot of size and we do, so we wanted to take advantage of the inside," Hill said. "Our guards did a good job of penetrating and kicking and getting it to the big men on the inside."
Downey, a 5-foot-9 redshirt sophomore, was the main culprit for South Carolina.
In addition to his 28 points, he also recorded six steals and hit 9-of-11 free throws.
Weems said allowing Downey to get into his rhythm was costly.
"In the first half, we came out real sluggish and let one of their main players get involved in the offense," Weems said. "From there I knew it was going to be a tough game for us."
For Arkansas, the loss is its first SEC defeat of the season and comes in the same week the Razorbacks received votes in the AP Top 25 poll.
Pelphrey said South Carolina deserves credit for the way they played, and the Razorbacks left a lot to be desired.
"We did not play well enough to win this game," Pelphrey said.
