UA brings Foo Fighters in spring

Brian Washburn

Issue date: 11/26/07 Section: News
The Foo Fighters - vocalist/guitarist Dave Grohl, drummer Taylor Hawkins, guitarist Chris Shiflett and bassist Nate Mendel - recently released their sixth studio album, "Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace," Sept. 25. Although the album received only two and a half stars out of five from Rolling Stone magazine, it did peak at No. 3 on the Billboard charts, according to the Billboard Web site.

The band, usually known for their front man Grohl, who used to be the drummer for influential grunge band Nirvana, has had such hits as "Monkey Wrench," "My Hero," "Times Like These" and "The Best of Me."

They have also contributed songs to soundtracks for such movies as "Varsity Blues" and "Orange County." No opening acts have been announced yet for the show. It will be whoever the Foo Fighters are bringing out on their tour, Spencer said. "It comes as part of the band package."

"The Foo Fighters have a new album out, and that creates a lot of buzz. They are also in the public eye and that's the type of band we look to get to come to the UA," Spencer said. "They're a top 10 band and they have also had lasting success."

The committee consists of 10 other students, he said.
