After being injured on his motorcycle earlier this fall in an accident involving a hit -and-run driver, Professor Dale Warren has returned to the UA band department. Warren returned Monday from spending six weeks at home recovering from his wreck.
Although doctors have told Warren to take it slowly he returned this week, and took on a full day Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in his office.
After recovering for so long, Warren's doctors informed him that he lost eight pounds of muscle weight, one of the reasons he has such a low endurance right now.
Stubbornly, he admitted he was pretty worthless after returning home from his full day on Monday.
"I laid down, took a nap and rested for the next day," he said.
What was Warren's favorite part about being back at the UA?
"I got to drive to campus," he said. Although he still has one cast on his pinkie and must cover his road rash until it heals, he still is in some pain.
"I am a lot better, not the 'OK' stage, but when it all quits hurting, I will be back to par," he said. Although his motorcycle was demolished and towed, he will be reimbursed for the price of his bike.
"Conversation has been pretty open and shut between the woman who hit me," Warren said. The suspect was already arraigned for her crime and has a December court date.
"All I can say is that I feel lighter than ever," he said. "Throughout this whole process, my church, the university and the whole community has been wonderful. I am still overwhelmed, and it all is just spectacular. I feel like it is a homecoming all over again. They are seemingly happy that I am back."
