Gators in control
After losing two consecutive SEC contests, the Florida Gators are in control of their own destiny once again if they wish to return to the conference championship game in Atlanta.
The No. 14 Gators got four touchdown passes from quarterback Tim Tebow and responded each time Kentucky made an attempt to get back into the game, as Florida defeated No. 8 Kentucky 45-37.
With their only conference losses coming to western division opponents Auburn and LSU, the Gators improved their conference record to 3-2. They now own the tiebreaker over Tennessee and Kentucky and are yet to play Georgia and South Carolina.
"I just think this league is a mess right now," Kentucky coach Rich Brooks said. "It's competitive, and week-to-week, you better be ready to play or someone is going to jump up and spoil it."
Kentucky quarterback Andre' Woodson kept his Heisman trophy hopes alive with a solid performance, though he may have been overshadowed by Tebow. Woodson was 35-of-50 for 415 yards and five touchdowns.
Going for the gold
With the waning seconds ticking off the clock and LSU trailing 24-23, the Tigers appeared primed for a chance to kick a game-winning 40-yard field goal. But instead of kicking the field goal, LSU coach Les Miles sent his offense onto the field.
With time winding down, LSU quarterback Matt Flynn connected with Demetrius Byrd on a 22-yard touchdown pass with just 1 second remaining. Auburn couldn't return the ensuring kickoff, and LSU escaped with a 30-23 victory to preserve its spot at the top of the western division.
The loss snapped Auburn's eight-game winning streak in conference road games.
