Basketball Hogs picked to win SEC Western Division

The Arkansas Razorbacks were picked to win the Southeastern Conference Western Division Tuesday by the league's media at SEC Media Days in Birmingham, Ala.
Arkansas received 18 of 30 first place votes to win the division. Mississippi State had 10 first place votes to finish second in the poll. Alabama and Auburn each received one first place vote and finished third and fourth, respectively. LSU and Ole Miss rounded out the division.
Arkansas sophomore guard Patrick Beverley and senior center Steven Hill were also honored by the league's media.
Beverley, who was named the 2007 SEC Newcomer of the Year, was tabbed as a preseason first team All-SEC selection. Beverley led the Razorbacks with a 13.9 points-per-game average last season.
Hill was named to the league's preseason second team. Hill finished last season averaging 6.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Hill was second in the league in blocked shots, averaging 2.8 per game.
Tennessee was a unanimous pick to win the league's eastern division and was also picked to win the overall crown. Tennessee finished last season with a 24-11 record and lost to eventual national runner-up Ohio State 65-64 in the Sweet 16.
Kentucky was picked to finish second in the eastern division, while two-time defending national champion Florida was picked third. Vanderbilt, Georgia and South Carolina rounded out the voting in the eastern division.
Along with Beverley on the preseason first team is Tennessee senior guard Chris Lofton, Mississippi State forward Jamont Gordon, Vanderbilt forward Shan Foster and Alabama guard Richard Hendrix. Lofton was the only unanimous selection on the first team and was tabbed as the conference's preseason player of the year.
Hill is joined on the second team by Mississippi State forward Charles Rhodes, LSU forward Tasmin Mitchell, Ole Miss center Dwayne Curtis and Tennessee forward Tyler Smith.
Auburn forward Quan Prowell and Georgia guard Sundiata Gaines also received votes.
The 2007-08 SEC Media Preseason Poll tips off SEC Basketball Media Days which will be held Wednesday and Thursday at the Birmingham, Ala., Marriott.
The 2007-08 season begins Nov. 6 and conference play begins Jan. 8. The SEC Tournament will be held March 13-16 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
