"Two-thousand five hundred dollars is an exorbitant amount of money," said Senator Jake Burns, representing Fulbright College.

A bill sponsored by Senator Carter Ford of Fulbright College calling for the creation of an ASG town hall meeting also received approval from Senate members.

"I told my constituents I would do this for them because I believe this is a real good way for ASG to get out and hear what our constituents have to say," Ford said.

The bill requires ASG to create a committee to plan and advertise the event.

The Senate also heard debate on an Emergency Funding Bill for the Friends of India Diwali Banquet.

The event requires additional funding to accommodate increased facility costs and a larger crowd because of collaboration with the Music Department to change venues and bring an internationally-known music group, according to the bill.

The bill was defeated after being moved immediately to a second reading in order to provide an immediate response.

Senators opposing the bill expressed concern that it did not fulfill the emergency funding requirements in the ASG Code because it was stated that the event would continue without ASG funding.

"If we fund this, then it opens up for anybody to say, 'Well, you did it a couple years ago, you've got to do it for me,'" said Sen. Caleb Rose, representing the Graduate School.
