Lady'Back softball hosts Arkansas Fall Invitational

The Lady Razorback softball team (6-0) continues fall play as it hosts Seminole, Crowder and Northeastern State in the Arkansas Fall Invitational at Lady'Back Yard this weekend. The pieces of the puzzle are in place, but the coaching staff will look during the inviational to see what they will be working with this season, said Arkansas head coach Jamie Pinkerton.

"We are just really wanting to build on what we've done this fall," Pinkerton said. "Our goal is to find out who we are, what roles certain players are going to play and for the coaching staff to put players in certain situations. I think we have a good idea of what most our student-athletes can do, so it is a matter of putting the pieces together and building on each week to have some momentum."

Pinkerton has been pleased with his pitching staff so far, but wants to see what happens with injured Teighyne Hulsey, he said.

"Katy Henry has done a good job at leading the young players," Pinkerton said. "Miranda Dixon is coming back and has been through this. Layne McGuirt came in this weekend and had her first bit of trouble early and we made an error and got a couple of unearned runs but pitched her way out of that. That was a good sign and I needed to see that.

"The only thing is that we need to find where we are at with Teighyne Hulsey, who has been shelved with an injury," Pinkerton said. "My main concern is what we perceive as our number-two or -three starter really hasn't pitched much this fall and the most part of last season. If we get her healthy, we'll feel real good about this staff."

The offense and pitching have performed well thus far, but eight errors in six games is concerning, Pinkerton said.

"Although three of those errors are from a player playing out of position, I'm concerned," Pinkerton said. "That has been a concern of mine for a couple years now. We've had some injures, but there are no excuses. When you start giving four or five outs an inning, then teams start putting up crooked numbers. I think we are not as good as we should be, but we are better than the statistics are showing."
