Rollin' With the Razorbacks takes students to Ole Miss

Issue date: 9/28/07 Section: News
The Associated Student Government will be accepting applications for this year's Rolling with the Razorbacks until Friday , Sept. 28.

The program, now in its fifth year, will take 100 students to the Oct. 20 game against Ole Miss in Oxford.

The program costs $25 and includes transportation, food, a T-shirt and a ticket to the game.

Grant Hunt, a senior, said he chose to participate in the program in 2005 and 2006 because of the low cost.

"I decided to go because of the price.  Can't beat it," Hunt said. "Only $25 got you a bus ride, lunch and a good seat to watch the Hogs play."

Senior Jason Hardy, who participated the past two years, also emphasized the low cost.

"I love the Razorbacks. I simply cannot get enough of them," Hardy said. "So, when ASG offers a trip to an away game for just $25, how could I resist?"

Without the program, admission to a game would cost students $45, said ASG Senator and athletic director Cody Kees.

This year, the program is expanding to support the United Way as well as the Razorback football team.

"We are purchasing Rally Towels for the event and giving them to students with the donation of $2 to the United Way," Kees said.

"This is the UA arching charity, and we thought it would be a great way for ASG and Resident's Interhall Congress to play a greater role in the annual campaign."

This year's trip will serve as a test to see if the program can expand to include more students next year, Kees said.

"The capacity at 100 has worked out well in past years, as far as safety is concerned," Kees said.

"It is a manageable number of students, and it is certainly a noticeable number during the game."

However, this year's trip is filling up faster than in the past, because of earlier planning and increased word-of-mouth awareness, Kees said.

"Another bus would accommodate an additional 56 students," Kees said. "Of course, that would require more staff members and more supervision."
