Cross Canadian Ragweed, based out of Texas, will perform at George's Majestic Lounge tomorrow as part of George's 80th anniversary music festival.

The band's members- front man and lead guitarist Cody Canada, drummer Randy Ragsdale, rhythm guitarist Grady Cross and bassist Jimmy Plato - began creating their signature country-rock style in Yukon, Okla., more than 12 years ago.

Featured in Billboard Magazine and USA Today, the band's style has been described as having the energy and sex appeal of rock crossed with the direct honesty of country. Like the hybrid their name implies, Cross Canadian Ragweed's influences span genres, including artists as diverse as Merle Haggard and AC/DC, Bo Diddley and Pantera.

Described as "the top of the heap of the red-dirt genre," Cross Canadian Ragweed attracts a passionate fan following. Their 2004 album, "Soul Gravy," debuted at No. 5 on the country album chart. In their home state, Texas, they broke icon Willie Nelson's attendance record at Ft. Worth's Lone Star Park, with 25,000 fans. All this is despite the fact that they have not had one single radio hit - a feat Billboard Magazine attributes to "intense touring and lively shows."

They have a dedicated local following, as well. Brian Crowne, operating owner of George's Majestic Lounge, said they've sold out every performance for the last three and a half years. "They're wonderful, talented guys," Crowne said. "It's always a pleasure to have them back."

George's Majestic Lounge, the oldest live music venue in Arkansas and one of the oldest in the Southwest, is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a four-day music festival September 6-9. The festival will benefit Children's House with proceeds from live auctions as well as a portion of ticket sales being donated to the charity.

Other bands scheduled to perform include the Cate Brothers Band, the Nace Brothers, Steve Kimock and Friends and many others.

"Rather than have one big headliner, we're fortunate enough to have this assemblage of fantastic artists, some who actually requested to play our anniversary - we'll have four nights of truly magical performances not to be missed," Crowne said.

Tickets are available at George's Majestic Lounge and Sound Warehouse in Fayetteville or online at www.georgesmajesticlounge.com. The Web site also has complete festival details as well.

Friday's performance is part of Cross Canadian Ragweed's "High Times and Hangover" tour celebrating the release of their new CD, "Mission California." Their next date is the Family Jam Friday in Oklahoma City.
