The soccer club also has a general membership that is open to any UA students and faculty members, Tromburg said. However, teams playing in the OCCSL will consist of 18 members that will be chosen during tryouts. The first tryouts were yesterday and the two remaining tryouts are scheduled for Aug. 30 and Sept. 4, according to the soccer club Web site.
At league team tryouts, players are chosen by their demonstration of individual ability. They must also demonstrate the ability to be a team player and show commitment and attitude, according to the tryout selection criteria flyer on the soccer club's Web site.
"Commitment is usually the big issue we face every year," Walter said. "At the beginning of the season about 20 players will show up for the game, and towards the end we will only have about 12 or 13."
Team practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays at the intramural fields from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. They are open to all students and faculty of the UA. The UASC will end its season Oct. 20. If the team finishes as one of the top four teams in the league, it will have the chance to advance to the regional tournament.
