"I've told all the players that if they want their release, we'll grant their release," Nutt said. "I want guys that want to be here, and hopefully they'll be here."
With the controversy surrounding the program growing, Nutt emphasized that the program is not out of control.
"I challenge anybody on that one," Nutt said. "I don't believe that whatsoever. I think if that were true we'd lose 17 commitments or at least half of them. We haven't lost one. We're coming off a Jan. 1 bowl game, and I feel good about where we are."
Mustain, the reining Gatorade, USA Today and Parade Magazine National Player of the Year, was the first quarterback in Southeastern Conference history to win his first four starts, including a 27-10 road victory over then-No. 2 Auburn.
He saw his first start in the second game of the season and started eight consecutive games before being pulled after the Razorbacks' first possession in a 26-20 road win over South Carolina. Sophomore quarterback Casey Dick started Arkansas' remaining five games, but at times split playing time with Mustain.
Mustain finished the year completing 52.3 percent of his passes for 894 yards, 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
