Fans of fashion rarely have the opportunity to see anything truly unusual or unexpected here in Northwest Arkansas. That will change this Friday, however. The internationally known artist Nicole Moan is presenting a one-time show of her unique, wearable, ceramic corsets. The show is being held at The Dart Room, a Fayetteville nightclub, and will start at 10 p.m.
The corsets themselves are one-of-a-kind pieces of functional art. They come in an array of designs that include corsets featuring images of sacred hearts, spring leaves, spider webs, and lapping flames. Each corset is designed to be used in two ways: as a functional piece of evening wear and as a displayable sculpture. They are actually made primarily of ceramic, porcelain, and other clays. In addition, the corsets feature straps or laces crafted from leather and fabric. Those interested in viewing the corsets can see them at www.4anythingart.com.
Jinx, a.k.a. DJ Infamous, formerly of a well-known Dallas nightclub called The Church, is coordinating the show. "I want the people here to see what they have been missing," Jinx said. "These corsets are unlike anything that has been shown in this area." He also emphasized the fact that the corsets are designed as artistic formal wear and people should not come to the event expecting lingerie to be on display.
In addition to the fashion show, the works of two other artists will be shown at the event. Blue Oblivion will be presenting her ethereal paintings and photography. Tien Duong will be presenting his modernist, "stencil" paintings. Local gothic-industrial DJs Azrael and Anthony Bale will provide the music.
The event is at the Dart Room on College Ave. at 10 p.m. The show is 21 and up and there is a cover of $8. Doors will open at 9 p.m.
