The Hollywood Foreign Press rolled out the red carpet last Monday to kick off this year's award season with the 63rd Annual Golden Globe Awards. Television and movie stars alike joined to celebrate the best in visual entertainment, but the real celebration for most lies in the fashion.

Pre-show struts down the paparazzi highway are notorious for taking the spotlight from the actual awards. Who cares which film had the best adapted screenplay? Let's see some ball gowns.

With basic colors like black, white and red dominating the evening's attire, Hollywood provided its usual plethora of glamour but experienced an unusual trend in its midst - simplicity.

Gravitating toward natural make-up and hair, our leading ladies presented themselves, not their accessories. The majority of females pitched the diamonds and opted for a more sophisticated, less-frivolous look. Actresses like Scarlett Johansson, Eva Longoria and Laura Linney chose classic red gowns, while Renee Zellweger, Sarah Jessica Parker and Natalie Portman sported basic black frocks. White and neutral were the big hits, though, worn by Kiera Knightley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sandra Oh, Felicity Huffman, Kate Beckinsale and Reese Witherspoon.

The night's fashion winners were definitely Hilary Swank, Sandra Oh, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman and Natalie Portman. With a binding force of purity, their genuine beauty took the spotlight, making these looks my personal favorites.

Hilary donned a low-cut, black chiffon number, which was belted high at the waist and cross-strapped her back. Her minimal make-up and accessories gave her a natural and fresh appearance. Sandra chose to accentuate her shoulders in a beige chiffon gown by loosely pinning up her hair to reveal the clean contour of her neckline.

In a gold, beaded Versace, Teri illuminated the red carpet, but once again, the hair was long and loose with minimal jewelry. Fellow housewife, Felicity Huffman, appeared as a Greek goddess in her empire-waisted, white chiffon (of course) gown. Her only adornment came from the gorgeous, silver trim of the dress's bodice.

But the Golden Globe for best dressed goes to...Natalie Portman, for her stunning work in vintage Chanel. Sporting a pixie haircut and naked collarbone, Natalie glided down the carpet in a strapless, black lace, tea-length dress. This ensemble gained my respect for two reasons: the style complemented her body shape perfectly (a must), and she exposed her stunning, porcelain skin by skipping out on accessories all together. She looked magnificent.

So ladies, be on the look-out for the upcoming, sans-jewelry style. The Golden Globes proved that the movement is making its way. Learn to be comfortable in your own skin, and get ready to show it off as the days get longer. We're bound to see an uprising in naked necks, wrists and even earlobes soon.
