On Thursday afternoon, a group of UA students gathered outside the Fayetteville Women's Clinic to peacefully protest Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that effectively legalized abortion. Usually when an American university gets a new chancellor, it celebrates with an induction ceremony. But instead of having an inauguration, Chancellor G. David Gearhart is forgoing tradition and using the $50,000 to give scholarships to 50 students.

Paradox of pro-life
Last Thursday marked the 36th anniversary of the Supreme Court's ruling in Roe v. Wade. The controversial case, ruled in favor of Norma "Jane Roe" McCorvey, superseded all previous state and national laws regarding abortion.

Over the past two days, I have ridden on two different bus routes four times that have had to leave students due to overcrowding. Perhaps it is time for the university's transit department to make some changes.
I understand that anyone may ride the university's transit buses, not only students, faculty and employees. Is it not the students that through our "fees" pay for the transit system? … 1 Comment |
