Negotiations reopen for UA to buy FHS site

Negotiations between the UA and the Fayetteville School District regarding the possible purchase of the current Fayetteville High School site have been reopened, a school board member said.

NWA has federal resources to fight drug trafficking

Northwest Arkansas law enforcement agents now have access to federal resources for fighting drug trafficking, officials said.

Washington and Benton counties, along with 26 other counties in the U.S., received the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area designation from the Office of National Drug Control Policy, which has not been granted since 2001, according to the ONDCP Web site.… Post the First Comment

Fraternity teaches science to elementry students

While most kids at Leverett Elementary School are nearly a decade away from enrolling in college and choosing a major, UA students are visiting their classes hoping to spark an early interest in the sciences.

Health center educates about eating disorders

In the 2007 academic year, 1.2 percent of UA students experienced anorexia and 2.2 percent experienced bulimia, according to a survey done by the National College House Association.

RIC funds free Scantrons in residence halls

Students who find themselves without Scantrons before an exam will no longer have to rush to the Union or Club Red. The Residents' Interhall Congress passed a bill Monday funding free Scantrons for residence halls.

'All-night party' Relay for Life raises funds for cancer research

Relay for Life might sometimes be mistaken for a foot race, but the UA event, Razorback Relay, will be more like a big party, members of Colleges Against Cancer agreed.

Musicians develop 'ear' through experience, not genetic disposition

Practice, training and experience develop a musician's ear and abilities, not genetic disposition, a UA professor concluded.

Elizabeth Margulis, UA assistant professor of music, collaborated with Patrick C. M. Wong and colleagues from Northwestern University in using functional MRI to examine the effect of experience with a type of music on listeners' neural responses to the music, according to a press release.… Post the First Comment
