UA named best place for Arkansas students, Hispanics
The UA's "best value" standing moved higher this year in Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine as among the best in the country for Arkansas students, and an even better value for nonresident students.

The UA also was named the best place in the state, and the only Arkansas college or university named, for Hispanic students to attend college, according to The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education's Publisher's Pick issue.… Post the First Comment

Foo Fighters concert cancelled

Singer ill, says band will 'make it up'
The Foo Fighters concert scheduled to take place tonight at Barnhill Arena has been cancelled because singer Dave Grohl is ill, according to the band's Web site. Grant Spencer of the UA Headliner Concert Committee, which was responsible for bringing the Foo Fighters to the UA, is advising people to hold on to their tickets to see if the committee can re-schedule the show.… 2 Comments

UA pledges action against scalpers

The Foo Fighters will come to Barnhill Arena today for the spring concert set up by the UA Headliner Concerts Committee, but not all of the students who picked up free tickets will be attending.

Alleged rape still under question

An acquaintance rape, reported to have occurred between 2 a.m. and 11 a.m. Jan. 19 at the Kappa Sigma fraternity house, is being investigated by the UA Police Department.

David Gearhart approved by trustees

G. David Gearhart will assume the position of UA chancellor July 1. The Board of Trustees unanimously approved his nomination to become the fifth UA chancellor during their meeting Friday in Little Rock.

"It is indeed a great honor and privilege to be named the chancellor of the University of Arkansas, and I want to thank President Sugg and the Board of Trustees for the faith and confidence you have shown in me," Gearhart said, at the Board of Trustees meeting.… Post the First Comment

Finance and administration loses vice chancellor after 42 years at UA

When Earlene Baker started her first job at the UA, her starting salary was $2,700 a year, and she thought it was good money.

"Most people make more than that a month now, but that was a good salary at that time," she said.
